How should I care for my Meg pieces?
ACRYLIC
Machine wash acrylic pieces in cold water. Hang dry or tumble dry on low. To remove stains, soak acrylic clothing in warm water and detergent, and gently rub to remove the stain.
To prevent the stretching of acrylic pieces, especially sweaters, store pieces folded.
COTTON
Wash cotton pieces in the machine on cold, and hang them to dry to extend their longevity. Turn cotton pieces inside out before washing to prevent fading. To remove wrinkles, steam on hot. Do not bleach unless the garment is white. Use a mild detergent to spot clean.
LINEN
Machine wash linen pieces in cold water and hang or lay flat to dry. Treat stains before washing in the machine. Don’t use bleach unless the garment is white. Use a mild detergent to spot clean.
NYLON
Machine wash on warm or cold. Tumble dry on low or hang dry. To remove wrinkles, steam on low heat. Do not bleach. Use a mild detergent to spot clean.
PLEATHER
Machine wash pleather in cold water on delicate, or dry clean if you prefer. For extra protection, wash pleather in a mesh laundry bag, inside out. Always hang dry your pleather pieces, as heat will cause melting. To care for your pleather pieces, condition them with a small amount of baby oil on a soft cloth. Most stains can be removed with a microfiber cloth and warm water.
POLYESTER
Machine wash polyester pieces on cold. Air dry, or dry on low to medium heat. To avoid wrinkles, store polyester pieces on hangers. Do not bleach unless garments are white, spot treat when needed. Use a mild detergent to spot clean.
RAYON
Machine wash on cold on a delicate cycle. Hang to dry and do not twist the garment. To remove wrinkles, steam only. Do not use bleach, vinegar, or fabric conditioner. Use a mild detergent to spot clean.
SPANDEX
When pieces contain spandex, machine wash on cold. Air dry or tumble dry on low. Don’t use bleach, fabric softener, or dryer sheets.
TENCEL
Machine wash on cold on a delicate cycle or hand wash. Air dry or tumble dry on low. To remove wrinkles, use a steamer. Use a mild detergent to spot clean.
WOOL
To take care of your wool pieces, hand wash or machine wash delicate using cold water and mild detergent. Always hang dry, do not put wool pieces in the dryer! If your wool becomes wrinkled, steam it. Do not iron wool. Store in a cool, dry environment to prevent damage.
How can I remove stains from my Meg pieces?
INK
If the stain is on cotton or linen, blot lightly with rubbing alcohol and rinse. If the stain remains, use a mild detergent to spot clean and wash.
GREASE
Pretreat quickly with a stain remover, such as Tide or Shout. Dampen the stain with water and rub it with a bar of soap or detergent. Wash in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric.
MAKEUP
For foundation, spot treat with dish soap and wash in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric. For lipstick, scrape off the excess color, then pre-treat with a stain remover such as Tide or Shout. Wash.
BLOOD
Soak in cold water for up to two hours. Apply hydrogen peroxide to the stain and wash as usual.
SWEAT
Mix equal parts baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to create a paste.Rub into the stain and wash in the hottest water that is safe for the fabric.
GRASS
Mix white vinegar and baking soda. Apply to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse and reapply as needed.
CHOCOLATE
Rinse with cold water. Rub detergent into the stain and soak in cold water. For greasy stains, use a pretreat product, such as Tide or Shout. Wash as usual.
WINE
Combine equal parts hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Dab into the stain and let it sit for one minute. Wash as usual.
COFFEE/TEA
Soak in cold water for thirty minutes and then dab the stain with white vinegar. Wash as usual.

ALTER & REPAIR

REDUCE PILLING
Using a fabric shaver on pieces that have pilling can make your clothing feel brand new. In less than five minutes, a fabric shaver can remove pills from sweaters, coats, knits, pants, etc.
PREVENT FADING
Turning your clothing inside out before washing will help protect them and extend their lifetime.
What can I do with my Meg pieces when I no longer want them?
DONATE TO THE ARCHIVE
When you are done with your Meg pieces, donate them to the Archive to keep them out of the landfill. When you donate to us, you receive 15% off your next purchase per piece donated. Learn more about the Archive Program here.
SWAP
Meg stores host Archive swap parties twice a year. To be notified when these events are happening, make sure you’re signed up for our mailing list. Don’t live near a Meg location? Have a swap party with your friends to trade clothing and keep it out of the landfill.
